We have been made aware that an individual pretending to be a Scottish Government official approached an LGPS member at their house a few weeks ago, asking for personal details about their membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. In this instance the member refused to hand over any personal details. They have been asked to report the matter to the police. This happened in the Fife area.
Local Government Pension Funds will never call upon a member unannounced asking for personal details. We would ask all members, and all members of the public, to ensure that they never give out personal details to anyone calling unannounced at their home.
If anyone has been contacted by a suspicious person about their Local Government Pension, you are encouraged to inform the police as soon as possible. Non-emergency crimes can be reported to Police Scotland by calling 101. If you're deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or have a speech-impairment, a text phone is available on 18001 101, or you can fill in a Contact Us form | Police Scotland.
